Walk Down the Memory Lane

젝스키스, in German and in English: Sechs Kies, was a Korean boy group of six. In German, their name means six jewels.. so I guess they were aiming to be the JEWELS OF KPOP. And they certainly were. THEY HAD MY WITTLE KOREAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GIRL'S HEART FOR SURE. PLUS !! I met my favourites, 강성훈 + 은지원 (Kang SungHoon and Eun JiWon) right before I moved to Vancouver. I think it was my destiny to like them. I was rewarded.. I was a good child. KARMA MATTERS, CHILDREN !!
Well so yeah, thought about them.. I had some time.. and with YouTube's magic I was able to go through them and this other Korean boy band I was quite infatuated with, G.O.D. I even did video swipes through HOT, Fin.K.L., and S.E.S.. The music and the skills these groups have are blatantly different from the idols in Korean music industry these days.

Remember these kids ?? It's rediscovering bands that make our tummies all happy.


Japanese indie bands have come and sorta swept Vancouver past Saturday night. I couldn't attend, but my friend showed me videos of the bands that came. This ones called Gumi and they hit pillows to make beats. That's how awesome they are.


Also another Japanese indie band, Mothercoat. This vid's sick; it's almost better than the song itself. These days, I find myself getting influenced by MVs a lot more than before. If the MV is awesome, I'll listen to the song even if it is only mediocre. If the MV sucks, I'll probably not look for the song another day. It's a very modern method of marketing by bands, I believe.

And on the way back from my friend's today (we played RockBand 2 + Mario + MarioKart ALL DAY LONG ..and ate like pigs, too) we talked about Slamdunk. This got me all pumped up for manga reading, so as soon as I entered my house, I super-glued my ass to my chair and read Bakuman to save yet another page featuring my 2D love, NIIZUMA EIJI !! LOVE THIS CHARACTER. He plays with toy figurines and is a genius, need I say more !?

So ladies and gents. I have somewhat successfully completed my first year of university without much dips.. well at least. The dreadful marks will unveil themselves on the 2nd of May. Until then, I shall leave my sanity in a sacred box under my desk and play to my heart's content. Har har.

Since I'm going out to hang out with Koreans today, I'd like to make this a long delayed Korean post. First let's start of with long time ago Karlie Kloss from W Korea, and then the uber cool editorial Abbey Lee did for Vogue Korea (this is my first editorial from anything Korea that I like). I'm also not caught up with new editorials or what not, so there might be some better Korean mag's editorials out there that I've not seen. STAY TUNED !! I'LL EDUCATE MYSELF SOON !! AHHAHA. PS. Abbey's such a natural; I love her to DEATH. GUGHGhghgjhgl.






Been getting tons of Korean music ! Including this funky new band that my friend introduced me to ! Their name is EE !! SO CUTE !! Apparently they are getting married this year; I think that they are perfect for each other. Another point to note would be that this woman is sort of psycho and she was sued for assaulting a concert-goer or sth like that !!??! So she's like a Korean Courtney Love. HOW EXCITING !! BAHHaa



Another band is my ultra favourite, Hot Potato. I posted Confession few posts ago, and this is the follow-up. Part two. This song's name is See-Saw. It's really sad. Because here, you find out that the guy is actually married and has kids.. and then the girl is in the hospital and she ends up dying. It's sort of a typical sappy music video story that Koreans like to use. But the atmosphere achieved through this short film is totally different, and it has a quirky sense of humour. When he fed her an apple, the girl says "Ohhh, so apples were delicious"
Man: "You sound like you never ate apples"
Girl: "Yeah, I didn't eat apples much"
Man: "Really? Apples are my favorite"
Girl: "...heh heh...I'm allergic to apples."

The QUEEN of KPop is back !! With a full new album, H-Logic, which is actually bringing her LOADS of lawsuits !! SEVEN SONGS WERE SUED FOR PLAGIARISM. And when I went and compared them.. wow. I was quite surprised how BLATANTLY similar they are !! DLAKG;AIDFJKLADHGADF. Shame on Hyo-ri's part imo. However, call this the Korean Lady GAGA or another one of GAGA's copycat, but it's still awesome and I can't get more of it. This song was not sued for plagiarism, but it still sounds like everything we've already heard anyhow. WATCH HER STRUT HER HOTNESS + CONFIDENCE TO THE MAX.

Some of them are actually from abroad, so they speak English well and tweets in English, too. It's nice. It's actually quite interesting to see what they talk about. Sometimes it's about Korea's current events and all that. But this is my favourite Korean celebrity's twitter page. I thought I was going to have a heartattack.. becauseeeee...

Yes, I am Asian.
No, I was not into K-Pop.
In fact, I had no clue about Korean idols. Until. Few months ago, I started DJ-ing for UBC's Korean radio. Then I started to open my eyes. Now, I am a true Asian who somewhat religiously follows the K-Pop world.
Furthermore, my internet world revolves around Devon Aoki's TFS page. I can't move onto other sites. At the moment, my life.. it's a mess. Oh, yes, did someone say LIU WEN ?!!? Yeup.

Liu Wen in V, Tokyo something something. I was bad at jotting down the editorial title, because this wasn't TOO exciting. Liu was trying some new poses out and stuff, I just don't think this is the image or look that she can excel at. Nice seeing her branching out and working with new stylists + photographers, though !!
